Terms of Service

Welcome to SweetMango. These terms explain what you can expect from us and what we ask of you when you use sweetmango.app, app.sweetmango.app, and the stories, audio, and other content we publish (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.

1. What SweetMango is

SweetMango is a language learning web app. Learners read short stories one sentence at a time, can tap words to see translations, toggle hidden glosses, and listen to narrated audio. The app is provided free of charge. You can use it anonymously, or optionally sign in with Google to sync a display name across devices. There are no subscriptions or paid features.

2. Who can use it

The Service is intended for general audiences. If you are under the age of digital consent in your country (typically 13–16), please use the Service with a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children — see the Privacy Policy for details.

3. Accounts

If you sign in to SweetMango, the account belongs to one person — do not share credentials. You can close your account at any time from the in-app account menu; deletion is immediate and permanent. SweetMango may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

You can continue to use SweetMango anonymously without an account.

4. Acceptable use

By using the Service, you agree not to:

• Attempt to break, overload, or probe our infrastructure or that of our providers.
• Scrape, mirror, or redistribute the stories, audio, translations, or images at scale, except as permitted by Section 5.
• Use the Service to harm others, impersonate someone else, or violate any law.
• Bypass technical protections, embed the app on other sites except where we explicitly allow it, or remove copyright notices.

5. Content and intellectual property

The stories, translations, audio recordings, cover images, illustrations, code, and design of the Service are owned by SweetMango or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your own language learning. You may not republish, sell, or use the content to train machine learning models without our written permission.

You are welcome to share short excerpts (a sentence or two with attribution) for non-commercial educational purposes.

6. AI-assisted content

Some content on the Service is produced with the help of automated and AI tools — for example, machine translations of individual words, synthesized voice audio, and generated cover illustrations. We review and curate this content but cannot guarantee that every translation, pronunciation, or image is perfect. Please don’t rely on SweetMango as a substitute for professional translation, certified instruction, or legal/medical/financial advice.

7. Third-party services

The Service is delivered through third-party providers including Google Firebase Hosting, Google Cloud Storage, Cloudflare, Google Analytics (with your consent), and Resend (if you subscribe to the email list). Their availability, terms, and privacy practices may affect your use of the Service. We’re not responsible for outages or errors caused by upstream providers.

8. Email list

If you submit your email address to subscribe, you agree we may send you product updates and news about SweetMango. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.

9. Availability and changes

We may change, add, remove, or discontinue parts of the Service at any time, including stories, languages, features, or the Service as a whole. We may also update these terms; the “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the current version. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We don’t guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that translations and audio will be 100% accurate.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SweetMango and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, arising out of your use of the Service. Because the Service is free, our total aggregate liability for any direct damages is limited to USD $50.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold SweetMango harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the Service or your violation of these terms.

13. Termination

You can stop using the Service at any time by closing the tab. If you have an account, you can delete it from the in-app account menu (see Section 3). We may block access from specific IP addresses or networks, or suspend or terminate accounts, if we believe they are abusing the Service.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which SweetMango is operated, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction, except where local consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring proceedings in your own country.
